Master the Game: A 5-Minute Guide to Mahjong

Mahjong is more than just a game; it’s a strategy-filled social ritual that has captivated players for centuries. Whether you’re playing with our Crystal Dopamine sets or the Luxury Agate collection, the core goal remains the same: Harmony.
Here is everything you need to know to start playing today.
1. The Setup
A standard Mahjong set consists of 144 tiles. The main characters are:
The Suits: Bamboos, Dots, and Characters (numbered 1–9).
The Honors: Winds (East, South, West, North) and Dragons (Red, Green, White).
The Bonus: Flower and Season tiles (for extra points).
2. The Objective: "4 Sets + 1 Pair"
To win (or "HU"), you must organize 14 tiles into a specific structure:
4 Sets of Three: These can be a Pong (3 identical tiles) or a Chow (a sequence of 3, e.g., 1-2-3 of the same suit).
1 Pair: Two identical tiles, known as the "Eyes" of the hand.
3. How to Play
The Draw: Players take turns drawing one tile from the deck and discarding one tile from their hand.
The Steal: If another player discards a tile you need to complete a set, you can claim it!
Say "PONG" if it completes three identical tiles.
Say "CHOW" if it completes a sequence (only from the player on your left).
The Victory: When your hand reaches the "4 sets + 1 pair" structure, call out "HU!" to claim your win.
4. Why We Love It
Mahjong is a game of observation and intuition. It’s about reading the table, predicting your opponents' moves, and waiting for that one perfect tile to complete your "Luck."
